As the fierce and tender voice of the feminine rises again, we are gifted with renewed access to the women mystics and wisdom beings across the spiritual traditions, such as Teresa of Avila, Julian of Norwich, Mary Magdalene, the Shekinah, Rabia, Fatima, Tara, Quan Yin, Kali, and indigenous Mother goddesses. In this gathering, we engage in contemplative readings from the mystics, group reflections, evocative writing exercises, interspiritual chanting, and silent sitting, weaving these luminous elements into a basket of awakened community. This course is suitable for women and men drawn to reclaim the hidden treasures of feminine wisdom in the world's religions and in contemporary poetry. You will come away from this course with knowledge of engaging practices designed to access archetypal feminine energies and cultivate an ongoing relationship with the sacred feminine; a greater awareness of mystical poetry by women from the past and present; a renewed vigor for carrying interspiritual feminine wisdom into your ministry and personal spiritual life; and increased awareness of feminine spiritual resources previously obscured by thousands of years of male-dominated religious traditions.
Mirabai Starr writes creative nonfiction and contemporary translations of sacred literature. She taught philosophy and world religions at the University of New Mexico-Taos for 20 years and now teaches and speaks internationally on contemplative practice and interspiritual dialog. A certified bereavement counselor, Mirabai helps mourners harness the transformational power of loss. She has received critical acclaim for her revolutionary new translations of the mystics John of the Cross, Teresa of Avila, and Julian of Norwich. She is the award-winning author of God of Love: A Guide to the Heart of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, Caravan of No Despair: A Memoir of Loss and Transformation, and Mother of God Similar to Fire, a collaboration with iconographer William Hart McNichols. Her latest book, Wild Mercy: Living the Fierce & Tender Wisdom of the Women Mystics, was published in spring of 2019.
