Post-Traumatic Growth and Spiritual Intelligence in Treating PTSD

This course explores incorporating the Five Pillars of Post-Traumatic Growth in the treatment of PTSD and trauma. It draws from the evidence-based study of Post-Traumatic Growth by Richard Tedeschi, Ph.D., and Lawrence Calhoun, Ed.D. The Five Pillars are:

  • Appreciation for Life
  • Relationships With Others
  • New Possibilities in Life
  • Personal Strength
  • Spiritual Change

The study of Post-Traumatic Growth began in the mid 1990s at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, growing out of the field of Positive Psychology. Spiritual Intelligence (SQ21), created by Cindy Wigglesworth, provides a framework that supports these Five Pillars and is woven into the template, allowing for a broad discussion enfolding spirituality within the Post-Traumatic Growth foundation. Spiritual Intelligence is a set of 21 defined skills that are teachable. Spiritual Intelligence is defined as “The ability to behave with wisdom and compassion while maintaining inner and outer peace, regardless of circumstances.” Post-Traumatic Growth combined with your life in ministry has broad application. It is a much-needed skill that transforms your mindset and worldview from breakdown to breakthrough during these times of great change.
