One Spirit’s Interspiritual Counseling Program (ISC) is an exceptional training at the leading edge of the newly emergent field of Interspiritual counseling. As the only program training spiritual counselors in an Interspiritual model, One Spirit’s Interspiritual Counseling Program (ISC) is designed to serve the most rapidly growing segment of the population, those who are spiritual but not religious (SBNR). Through this professional and personal growth program, students are offered intellectually grounded and heart based experiences to expand their capacity and competence in the art of Interspiritual Counseling while deepening their own spiritual life and connection with the Divine. One Spirit’s Interspiritual Counseling model is grounded in interspirituality, presence, awareness, deep listening, counselor competence, and ethical practice.

Program Overview:

  • Part-time professional training program designed for working adults.
  • Four semesters offered over a two year period.
  • Classes meet one weekend a month from September to June.
  • Classes start annually in September
  • Program is available to attending and distance learning students via live webinar and/or audiobook downloads.
  • Program provides both peer and professional staff support.

Participants are exposed to a broad range of spiritual counseling approaches, assessment and intervention tools, through the lens of the world’s many spiritual and wisdom traditions.

The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life reports that people who are unaffiliated with any particular tradition are the most rapidly growing group in the United States… Millions of Americans today routinely cross boundaries that previously divided religions from one another, and at least some of them found a spiritual home not within a particular tradition but in the open and undefined spaces between them… Unconstrained by a religious tradition, yet committed to a spiritual path, they engage in a freeform mixing and blending of beliefs and spiritual practices from many sources.”

Applications for admission in September will be accepted during January through August of 2018.

Each semester includes presentations and skill building that are cultivated through what we call the Five Pillars of InterSpiritual Counseling:

  • Soul Encounters: Presentations and experiential processes that deepen the students’ direct and intimate relationship with the Divine, while expanding their understanding of how others experience spirit.
  • Counseling Skills: Multiple opportunities to work in dyad and triad formats, practicing open-ended inquiry (working with what is alive in the moment). Exposure to a broad range of counseling modalities allows students to ”try on” various approaches, gradually develop one’s own unique counseling style. The program offers opportunities to observe master counselor demonstrations (fishbowls) and discuss case study presentations.
  • Self-Work: The opportunity to go deeper and witness one’s own psychological patterns and any “unfinished business” that may interfere with counseling. Encounters with the inner self are also designed to cultivate presence and grow a larger and more compassionate container for the work.
  • Body of Knowledge: Students are exposed to a broad overview of the psycho-spiritual foundations and wisdom traditions that currently exist in the field.
  • Nuts and Bolts of a Spiritual Counseling Practice: Practical tools to set up a successful spiritual counseling practice including marketing, networking, money competency, etc., as well as ethical practice considerations such as setting healthy boundaries, dual relationships, self disclosure, and so forth.

“The depth, care and quality of this program is as professional as it is nurturing. It is everything an interspiritual counseling course should be – open to allow each student to discover their own unique counseling gifts and at the same time explore their personal spiritual challenges. ISC is everything I hoped for to help me with the tools I need professionally and personally.”
