One Spirit Community Gathering

dragonfliesOne Spirit Grief and Prayer Group
with Rev. Ariel Sebastian
& Rev. Sam Lipton

The Second Sunday evening of each month:
January 10
February 14
March 14
April 11
May 9

6:15 pm to 8:15 pm

Cost: Donations are lovingly suggested.  All proceeds will be donated to One Spirit.

In times of grief we need to tell our stories and be heard in the presence of loving, skillful witnesses.  This fall we will be “blossoming” a grief and prayer circle to address the bereavement needs of the OSLA community in a safe and sacred environment.  Rev. Ariel Sebastian will be facilitating the circle assisted by Rev. Sam Lipton. Other OSIS Graduates who have resonated with helping the bereaved are welcome and should contact Ariel prior to each meeting they wish to attend.  It is her hope that this circle will also give students the opportunity to practice the art of witnessing while serving our community.

Grieving may include, but is not limited to loss of: a loved one, a pet, a marriage, employment, a home, property, security, status, freedom, mobility, fertility, health, or any other state of transition. Grieving, as defined by Kubler-Ross, may manifest as any variant or combination of: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Grieving may or may not appear in these accepted terms.

The session will include reading from a list of requested prayers. If you wish to request prayer for a person or situation to be included in the list, please email Rev. Sam Lipton directly with details. revsamlipton@gmail.com.

The group will meet from 6:15 - 8:15 with one silent 10 min. functional break at 7:30. We will follow a simple format.  The first hour will focus on expressing, listening and responding to grief stories.  The second hour will close with prayers that come out of the presenting material as well as from online requests gathered over the month. It is essential that all be present for the start of the meeting. Please honor the group and guests by being on time.

This is a drop-in group so no RSVP is necessary. However, if you wish to serve as a witness for a group session, please contact Rev. Ariel Sebastian for orientation via email at ariel.sebastian@att.net or by phone, 212.721.9806. Anyone who feels they would benefit from this service is welcome.
