Compassionate Companioning: Presence with Others
The Tao of Dying II
4 Friday evenings, to be offered in the 2010-2011 school year.
OSIS Credit Value: 1
In
this course participants focus on supporting others
in their grief. Students accomplish this by being guided
to look deeply inside of themselves and become better
able to be present to the other who is experiencing
pain and loss. Meditation, discussion and experiential
exercises in the practice of “The Five Stages
of Grief and Dying” and clarification of the “Three
Styles of Helping” will be covered. Students will
refine listening skills, delve into the fears of the
other, create a memorial service and explore prayer.
Learn to bring your mindful and compassionate presence
to others in the grieving process by creating a safe
container to hold their fears in moment-to-moment awareness.
Recommended Prerequisite: The Many Faces of Loss (Tao of Dying I)\
Death & Dying: Presence with Spirit
The Tao of Dying III
To be offered in the 2010-2011 school year.
This
culmination of this three-part series will focus on
supporting those who are in the process of actively
dying, sometimes referred to as “deathing midwifery.”
Students will learn how the “Ah breath”
is used in facilitating the death experience. The class
explores and discusses various components of comprehensive
“End of Life” care. By working with these
practices, participants will develop increased capacity
to provide comfort and connection during profound grief.
Through skillful presence there can be ease and grace,
allowing the Oneness to simply be. Recommended Prerequisites:
The Many Faces of Loss: Presence with Self and Compassionate Companioning: Presence with Others (Tao of Dying I & II
)
Students Are Saying...
". . . your class was inspiring and elegant. "Elegant" isnt a word I use frequently, but it states the balance you create in what you say and how you say it; the environment you create; and the spaciousness of the experience I had.
Creating an elegant space for a discussion of death and dying is a gift you give all of us." -- J.E.
"Had it not been for your class, and the very real experience I had being both coached through the dying process and also by coaching another, I know I would not have handled the situation with quite as much grace and certainly not with as much ease.
And so I thank you, and I know the patients and their families would thank you as well if they were aware of your contribution." -- J.S.
"During your talk I was moved to tears remembering that I never got to tell him (my older brother) goodbye. I wept for a long time just pondering and feeling. This has opened many other places in me. I see clearly I have been hanging onto "stuff" instead of letting go -- sort of not saying goodbye to anything. The release that is now happening in me feels tremendous. A floodgate has been opened that has literally been plugged for 41 years. I am ever so grateful to you for your honest and tender sharing and your invitation to us to look deeply. Thank you." -- J.H. Distance Learner
"I want to thank you for this class, which was very helpful and meaningful for me. The information that you taught is so valuable for ministers. Your loving, peaceful presence is healing and is an invitation to experience Divine energy. . . as a distance learner, I felt drawn to the space by the sound of your breathing that you would do now and then. I love the delightful sound that you make as you take a deep breath, and find myself doing it noww . . . and it is so refreshing to my spirit. What a wonderful gift to take from this experience with you!" -- K.L. Distance Learner
