A 1-day workshop providing members of the One Spirit Community a safe space to cultivate deeper compassion and enhance their capacity to be inclusive of members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
It is an extraordinary time to be interfaith/interspiritual ministers and sacred activists. Together, we strive to create safe spaces that are welcoming and affirming, surrounding all who come through our doors with love, respect, and compassion. This one-day workshop is designed to raise awareness of the complexities, challenges, triumphs, and transformations experienced within the LGBTQIA+ community, a community that has seen an increase in violence, discrimination, and harassment in recent years. Often this violence and discrimination are fueled by beliefs and actions of some religious organizations that are being used to incite animosity and division. These harmful messages and experiences are often internalized and intricately woven into the core belief systems of the individual, creating pain, shame, and isolation.
We will discuss simple yet important ways language, knowledge, and compassion can be utilized within our worship services and faith communities to foster healing and empowerment, celebrate Queer spirituality, and embody radical inclusion of the lgBtQia+ community, thereby enriching the larger spiritual communities we serve.
Over the course of this day, participants will increase their understanding of:
- Diversity within the LGBTQIA+ community
- Cultural competency and capacity
- Inclusive language
- Queer spirituality as a gift and movement
- Cross-cultural and historical recognition
- Ceremony and ritual to honor LGBTQIA+ people
More than ever, the time for radical inclusion is now. interfaith/interspiritual ministers can play a very important role in the help, health, and healing called for in these times of animosity, division, and harm.
