For centuries, religion and science have been considered by many to be at polar ends of a spectrum that attempts to explain the workings of the universe. Societies often divide themselves according to this perceived divide, sometimes resulting in great conflict. But, are religion and science really at odds with each other? In this class, we will examine how both science and religion/spirituality offer vital input in understanding the enormous issues we face in our world today, from climate change to refugee crises, from income inequality to discrimination, and much more. We will explore how altruism is a notion put forth by both sacred and scientific worldviews and discover how activists from all sides can unite around this message.
In this class, Kurt Johnson and David Sloan Wilson will guide us through the ever-evolving relationship between science and religion and how humanity can and must move toward a more unified view of the two. Learn to recognize and appreciate the shift that is occurring as well as hear how today’s most prominent teachers are bringing science and spirit together to offer insight on the big questions of life. We will explore our personal relationships to the two, coming into greater balance, and discover how science actually validates the impact of spiritual practice.
