Because my life is so full and so speeded up, I find it helpful to take a moment when I wake up and set my intention to be helpful to others that day. The phrase I say is very simple – `May I be of use’ – but it has profound effects. It focuses me on what is most important and reminds me that meeting the deadline, for example, is important, but not as important as being caring to those I meet throughout the day. Setting this intention makes it more likely that when I do get speedy and unconscious of those around me, I will take a deep breath and look around at those with whom I am sharing this life.
